Manifestation

“The trick is in what one emphasizes.

We either make ourselves miserable,

or we make ourselves strong.

The amount of work is the same.”

– Carlos Castaneda

So, what is this "manifestation" thing all about? We hear the word and (pun intended) it conjures up ideas of magic and spells. Or at least that's how some people speak of manifesting. When we look up a brief meaning of the word, we find this: "An indication of the existence, reality, or presence of something." Hmmm, so are we saying it wasn't there to begin with, or just maybe coming to a realization?

That's a great question!!! Are we just breaking down the illusion? I would say, YES!!!

For years I had been writing "manifestations" or goals, which I believe is a better way to describe this breakdown. Ultimately, that was what I was working on, was having my goals and dreams become a reality. Most of the time, it didn't really seem to pan out. It wasn't until recently when I was working with my financial advisor that this started to make more sense. He had me write down about 10-15 goals for 2022. Ok, I wasn't that interested in writing them, but I did. I only wrote my business goals, thinking my personal ones weren't as important. All these ideas that were clear in my head were excruciating to write! I couldn't do it! I would pause and stop and think again. It's like they didn’t want to go down on paper!?! Now some weren't as bad to write, and once I got started it became easier. What a thing to notice!!! Writing goals was hard.

It makes me think of how we subconsciously block ourselves. If you aren't familiar, there's a great book called "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. In this book he explains that your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between now and 20-30 years ago. So, for example, if you were told as a child that "you better marry rich", your brain has that in the background f'ing up your relationships in the present. So, to further that notion, any negative commentary we have running around in there will foul up what we are trying to work on now! Holy WOW!!!

So, I really noticed this as I was physically writing. Most of us will "think" about our goals. We don't make the effort to write them down. And that's where we'll see a block. Very interesting….

In midst of this exercise, David now said, "well, add your personal goals, too. They're important! And I want you to write these goals as affirmations". Instead of me writing "I make "x" amount of dollars a year", I'm supposed to write, "I earn "x" amount…" Again, very interesting. Because this is homework that Pat gives her students. It's about how we speak to ourselves, noticing the verbiage, and correcting it with not only positivity, we're correcting it with an outcome we want to see in reality. When we ask, we have to believe as if it were true!

Ok, so that sounds simple, and yes, like "loving one another as I love you" is not easy to execute. Writing and speaking require more conscious effort on our part. Not only to notice, to also preform. Pat has us do two things on this journey. One, she teaches "cancel, cancel" and "delete, delete". They are supposed to be used when saying things like, "you're a pain in my *ss" or "that never works for me" or "things never go as planned". If you said it, you're supposed to add "cancel, cancel" or "delete, delete" after, and change the sentence to what you would prefer. Examples would be, "I'd prefer for you to leave me alone" or "this time I'll have a happy outcome" or "this plan is cemented to go right". Try it! Even thinking it makes you want to puke in your mouth a little, doesn't it??? Notice that feeling! Why??? Yes, so many of us have that dark, sarcastic sense of humor, I understand. I am one of those people! And look at what we're creating when we do it!?! The other thing Pat has us practice, which will fall into believing, is when we pray that we ask as if it's already done. Not "please", just "thank you". "Please" is meant to be polite manners when you pass the salt at a table. Not begging God for help when it's already a given. It changes how you feel. Again, try it! It's not easy to say in our heads. Trust me, I've had to do all these little adjustments along the way. I'm constantly tweaking!

And that's partly my point. Making the distinction in our heads and words is one thing, writing them down is the next step. It becomes even more clear what we fear, what we think we've overcome and where our work needs to move us forward.

"Manifestation" isn't about creating a miracle. Although, remember that a miracle is just a shift in perception from fear to love. "Manifestation" is the conscious effort to live our dreams and break down the illusions that are in the way. It's more about conscious, positive living. And who doesn't need a little work in that department??? And probably why this word may be so scary. Because it deals with the "work" we have to do, not the instant gratification we get by sitting back and watching it happen.

So, what work do you have to do in order to make your dreams come true? Feel free to share! As always, Love, Light and Blessings, Julia
